Stephen’s Bog oak sculptures are hauntingly evocative of times past.
The preserved Bog oak wood used by Stephen is older than the pyramids up to 5000 years old. Mirroring his use of ancient woods, his subjects speak of the magical history of our land. From smugglers to mystical druids & dragons, his sculptures carve a story of Ireland that portrays the very essence of our West of Ireland landscape.
Throughout his work he looks beneath the surface of the modern world and finds the same universal fears and desires, hopes and needs that drive us as they did our ancient ancestors, when the bog oak was still a young forest.
A native of Roscommon, he works from Cloonfad, in the heart of the land that inspires him.
